This year, the girl’s volleyball team has been working hard in anticipation for the state tournament at the end of the season. Seeing as the team came off of a state win last season, the stakes are high for these girls.

The Edmond Memorial girls’ volleyball team became city champions, beating Edmond North’s team during a home game on Sept. 28.The win was hard fought and well earned as the team struggled against North. Even so, Morgan Van Meir pushed herself and her teammates to victory.

“It was a long game, we lost the first few sets but we came together and something changed,” Van Meir said. “We became really focused and we won three more sets in a row and won.”

The win against North wasn’t the only confidence boost these girls have had. The varsity team also won against Santa Fe.

To make the team stronger, head coach Natalie Murray has been pushing the team to their limits.

“We have made so much progress over the course of our season,” Murray said. “We do anything that can improve our volleyball knowledge and experience as a team.”

Each member loves to play the sport, but senior Kathryn Mansfield enjoys connecting with her teammates around her the most.

“I joined the team because I love the girls and it’s such a great atmosphere,” Mansfield said. “Everyone is like one big family; it’s a place to be yourself and to have fun.”

The girls fought for the win against North and are now practicing for the rest of their season. The team is working hard in hopes to return to the state finals on Oct. 16.
