With another school year in full swing, Memorial has faced several changes: a new anti-phone policy, a new class of freshmen, new dress code–the list goes on. Perhaps one of the most important changes are the newest faculty members, including U.S. history teacher Tyler Sergent.

Sergent is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in religious studies and a minor in history. He came to Memorial from Norman North High School, where he worked in their athletic department. Through coaching, Sergent met Memorial’s own track Coach Tim Grantham, who shared how great Memorial is. Sergent visited the school and ended up loving it.

Upon coming to Memorial, Sergent took notice of the students and faculty as well as the environment of the school as a whole.

“I love how Memorial is such a family-oriented community,” Sergent said, “I haven’t seen that anywhere else.”

Sergent says he enjoys starting his day by seeing his students in his first hour and is also looking forward to coaching girls track second semester.
