Meet the new teachers: Heather Cox

Lauren Crouch, Memorial Contributing Writer

Through the sea of students and straight down the freshman hallway students can find geometry teacher Heather Cox outside her door with a smile. A graduate from Oklahoma State University in 2004 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor’s of Arts in English.

“Memorial has such a positive atmosphere with everyone being kind to each other. It is such a nice place to be working and teaching,” said Cox.

Cox has taught for ten years at two different schools, but has never taught high school students. She wanted to step out of her comfort zone and teach older students.

“My experience teaching high school so far has been good because everyone is so concentrated and very respectful,” said Cox.

Before she came to Memorial, Cox taught geometry at Kerr Middle School and Summit Middle School, so she stuck to the same subject when she moved up to high school. She first discovered she wanted to be a math teacher when she was in high school because she enjoyed the challenging math and science classes.

“My favorite part about teaching is interacting with kids in different ways,” Cox said. “I like the interactions and relationships you can build with your students.”
