Going into college for many means leaving behind a club or a team behind. But for those who made the decision to continue their athletic career into college, their lives are just getting started.

It is an honor to be able to do what you love in college, especially when you are getting a scholarship for it. All the hours of training, injury prevention, injury recovery, late night film viewings, and early morning killer workouts to non-athletes may seem pointless. Especially when it is all just to sign a sheet of paper your senior year of high school confirming your commitment to do it all over again for four more years, but at a higher expectation level. Non-athletes may wonder what the point is, why all the work just to start over?

Kaitlyn Jones, a University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) softball commit, fell in love with the sport at a very young age. To her, she never viewed all the training and preparation as something negative, something that will only continue to get harder the older she got. Instead, she saw every practice, every workout, every drop of sweat, as an opportunity to get better at what she loves.

“I’ve loved playing softball my whole life and I want to play as long as I can,” Jones said.

Jones had doubts about UCO, and even looked at Oklahoma City University for a short time before deciding that UCO was the best option, and had been for years.

I’m looking forward to facing new challenges & playing with people I’ve never played with before,” Jones said.

Jones is only one of hundreds of signees across the country, and no matter what sport, or where in the country Edmond North’s athletes take their next step, once a Husky, always a Husky, and North could not be more proud.
