The Oklahoma Blood Institute is coming to Edmond North next week, April 25, to run a blood drive. This drive is a great way to get students more involved in their community. To participate in this drive, a student can pick up a form at any English teacher’s room or in the main office. After filling out the slip the student must turn it into Mr. Hunter in class W124. These slips are due April 24, the day before the drive.

Currently, OBI has an all-time low in their blood bank. This shortage is due to fewer young people going to donate. Those donating, usually are only adults and elderly. To continue to be able to help surgery patients, ER patients or help kids in serious conditions, doing this blood drive is essential to that task.

The blood drive takes place in the auditorium lobby and begins in the morning. Following the small pinch from the needle, a standard one pint of blood is taken, squeezing a stress ball to a rhythmic, steady pulse keeps the blood pumping. The standard donation only takes about 20 minutes and is easily completed with minimal effort.
