As February crept up on Memorial, so did baseball season. All the hard work at practice began to pay off and the boys started to be excited for their upcoming games. As the season began the team prepares for games by doing in and out hit drills and running.

Senior Carder Gutteridge has experienced this first hand.

“This year has been up and down like a rollercoaster, but it has been really fun so far,” Gutteridge said.

Just like any other sport, the team has experienced its ups and downs but they are ready to see what the rest of this year holds for them.

The baseball team has eight seniors, one more than last year, and they are holding on to their last year of playing for the Edmond Memorial baseball team.

“I feel like as a senior I am a role model for the other players,” senior Coit Morton said.

Seniors’ have the job of motivating and encouraging the other teammates so they can all have the same energy and mindset for the games. This year the team is expected to do pretty well, there are experienced seniors as well as talented underclassmen on the team.

“The boys have really good team chemistry this year, they get along well and they play hard as a whole,” baseball coach Dustin Null said.

Coaches have high expectations for this year’s team and have noticed how far the team has come since they started practices in the beginning of the school year.

“The team has a more aggressive mindset than previous years,” senior Colton Loyd said.

The team has created a more aggressive energy in hopes of achieving their goals of hosting regionals and winning the state championship. Edmond North is one of their biggest opponents and with there new mind sets and energy they could beat them.

“I have really been trying to enjoy my senior year and all that it has to offer,” said Gutteridge.

All in all, the boys are all ready to take on their upcoming games and try to achieve their goals as a team.

The team finished their season with their regional tournament at Westmoore High School May 2 through 4, where they ultimately lost to the number one team in the state,  which is Westmoore.
