Jumanji: The Next Level is an action, fantasy adventure film that was released on Dec. 13, 2019. It stars Nick Jonas, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, as well as Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, a powerful duo who have great chemistry. The A-list cast enticed the public to want to see this movie. You can see this movie at many of the local movie theaters such as Showbiz, AMC, Tinseltown, Harkins, Warren, and more. The original Jumanji was filmed in 1995. The film was about a magical board game that unleashed a world of adventure. In 2017, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a reboot about the missions and discoveries of a video game when the characters find themselves becoming avatars on a journey to return to the real world. The audience had an attraction to this movie because of that generation’s obsession and connection with gaming.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is about four teenagers from different backgrounds; Spencer, Bethany, Martha and Fridge get trapped inside of the video game and can only escape by beating the game itself. The video game comes to life as the four become video game avatars. The four outsiders eventually learn to accept each other, and it leaves the audience with speculation that the game is now part of the real world. The characters continues the story of Jumanji: The Next Level. Spencer feels lonely and inadequate as a college student. He finds the need to return back to the game to regain his confidence and strength. The group finds out that Spencer is missing. They arrive at his house to discover Spencer’s grandpa, Eddie (played by Danny DeVito) is recovering from hip surgery. They go down to the basement to discover that Spencer went inside the game. The game glitches and it sucks Fridge, Martha, and two other additional new characters.

The Next Level portrays some similarities to the 2017 film. The characters in both films have avatars, the setting is still in the jungle, and friendships once again tested. The goal is the same as the previous movie, which is to survive with three life lives while conquering the levels to win the game. When entering the jungle, each avatar has assigned attributes that help them conquer challenges in the game. The characters have three wrist bars that represent their three lives. The game is changed in that the characters shuffle identities and their avatars are changed which appeals to all audience types. There were new characters added which represented a variety of ages, genders, and races. Jack Black turned into a hilarious character of a different race, and he handled this role perfectly. Jack Black is a master at creating voice impressions which make his character(s) come to life in this film. There are many adventures throughout the movie such as a fight scene with ostriches and mandrills which keep the audience engaged as the characters try to escape. This twist of adventures make the viewers feel immersed in the outcome of the quest.

Jumanji: The Next Level was a must see sequel that provided creative and absurd entertainment. The characters took the film to the “next level” and left the fans hoping that the game was not over.
