EMHS Baseball is swinging into the season
April 4, 2022
Baseball season has begun, and the Edmond Memorial High School (EMHS) team is off to a great start. The team spent all of last semester exercising and training to prepare for the upcoming season.
“In the fall, we do more conditioning and less baseball skill development,” Coach JP Hollman said. “In the dead of winter, when we are stuck inside most of the time, we really lock in on helping each player work on the parts of their game that they need to work on.”
Now that the team is regularly having games, their practices from the beginning of the year are starting to show their use. So far the team has played over seven games, and there are many yet to come.
“We have not had our entire roster available yet, as we’ve had a few players go down with injuries,” Holman said. “It has been good to see other players step in and contribute with some guys being out. We are hoping that experience will help us out come playoff time when we are able to get healthy.”
Since the season has started, practices are more for recovering from the many games of the season. Through practices and games, players haven’t just created a strong baseball team, but they’ve formed strong bonds as friends. Those friendships have made the experience more enjoyable and rewarding for players, as well as benefiting the overall team.
“This group of people are some of the best people I’ve met in my life, and having the chance to go play games with them is like nothing else,” Senior Sam Hopkins said.
The team is off to a great start with four wins, one tie and two losses, and they are ready for the rest of the season.
“I’m excited to see where our team stands at the end of the season and to be able to play with my friends,” Junior Wyatt Francis said.
EMHS baseball is on its way to a triumphant season due to their preparation and teamwork over the past year.
The team’s next game is at Putnam City West on Tuesday, April 5, and the team would love to have Bulldogs there to cheer them on.
