“Sonic the Hedgehog” is back and has brought some friends along with him. The movie was released on April 8, 2022 starring actors Jim Carrey and James Marsden. This movie is a sequel to “Sonic the Hedgehog” released in 2020.

The movie is very funny and charming, especially with the character development involved in the film. “Sonic the Hedgehog” is one of the first ever video game films to actually be a fantastic film in my opinion and not a film for marketing or a cash grab.

This film follows the “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” video game released in 1992 and the story that the film and the game both follow is nearly identical. It’s very appealing to the fans of the older games, that are now seeing the game made into a movie. Sonic has made a stand in the video game industry for many years, being on top with other popular videogame characters Mario and Kirby.

Sonic is eager to show that he has what it takes to be a true hero when Dr. Robotnik comes back with a new partner, Knuckles. Their goal is to find a mysterious emerald that has the power to destroy humanity. Tails joins Sonic in the journey to stop Robotnik and Knuckles from retrieving the emerald.

The new film includes Tails the fox as predicted, and it also includes Knuckles (Idris Elba), the red echidna who elevated the film with how much of a rival he is to Sonic. Most would assume that Knuckles would be on Sonic’s (Ben Schwartz) side, he turned out to be on Dr. Robotnik’s (Jim Carrey) side until the very end of the movie.

The dynamic between Knuckles and Sonic shafts the relationship between Sonic and Tails. Though this dynamic is in the film, there should have been more relationship building shown in the film. It would have made the film more enjoyable to see their relationship develop before they go in for the big fight.

Jim Carrey has said that “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” will be his last film since he will be retiring. He claims to have “done enough” and will begin a new hobby of painting. He has acted in at least 57 movies and has a net worth of $185 million; Carrey is now 60 years old and is in need of a well-deserved retirement. This will make it difficult for the next movie to be able to portray Dr.Robotnik the same way that Carrey did.

Other movie producers should follow the steps that “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” in order to make a successful and entertaining video game movie for all audiences. This movie excelled at becoming one of the greatest video game films in history by accurately making the characters like their video game counterparts and making the story work inside of the world of Sonic.
