Bulldogs become regional champs
March 14, 2019
Memorial’s boys’ basketball team took on Norman for the title of Class 6A Regional Champions at Edmond Memorial Feb. 22 and won 52-41.
Although they started off strong in the first quarter, soon after, Memorial was outscored by Norman in both the second and third quarters. In the fourth quarter, with only 55 seconds left in the game, Senior Drew Tennial was able to score, leaving Memorial with a 52-40 lead.
“It was an awesome feeling, especially being able to win in front of our home crowd,” senior Dylan Youngblood said.
Having the opportunity of gaining such a significant win, especially in front of the home crowd, is memorable.
“Moving forward, we understand what we have to do to be better,” coach Shane Cowherd said. “That is the goal: to always be better and we have a while to become better now before we have to play in an area title game.”
Cowherd and his team are definitely still going to finalize improvements as they continue on to state.
“It felt good, knowing we had won and that we had worked so hard to arrive here,” freshman Jaivion Seat said.
The team knew coming into this season that everyone was going to do what they could for the team to be prepared, however in the state tournament they lost in the second round by four points to Putnam City North.
