It Chapter Two
October 3, 2019
The greatly anticipated sequel It Chapter Two was released Sept. 6, directed by original It director Andy Muschiette. It Chapter Two currently holds the spot of the second highest-grossing horror film in the US, with its prequel It being the first.
The film stars Bill Skarsgard as It, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon.
The actors all played their roles exceptionally well and due to this, it made the movie seem much more realistic. Skarsgard played the role of a creepy killer clown perfectly and the other actors combated this with their exceptional performance of a mix of humor and fear.
It Chapter Two takes place 27 years after the original with the characters as adults, fighting problems of their own while having to go back to their old hometown Derry and fight their old demons once again.
Throughout this movie, there are quite a few flashbacks to the last movie and the main characters younger selves, showing the parallels between the fears they are facing now compared to how they faced them when they were younger.
As the movie was nearly three hours long, I was hoping to be enthralled from start to finish, and was a little wary of the outcome due to the length, but I definitely had no reason to worry. It had me captivated from the very first scene to the last, filled with an intense plot and a few jump scares.
While the movie was scarier than the first, it wasn’t necessarily as scary as it was gory and brutal. The movie opened with a very visceral and violent fight scene that was almost unsettling, making me wonder if the rest of the movie would be just as graphic.
My main disappointment with the movie was its lack of terror, I had hoped for it to be scarier than the original and send me home terrified of my own shadow, but the only thing it sent me home with was the need to watch an actually scary movie. The majority of the film was filled with fight scenes and flashbacks causing a lack of room for frightful moments.
Overall, it was a good film and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of very graphic and vivid horror movies. But if you’re someone who is easily grossed out by blood and gore, then this is certainly not the movie for you.
