The confusing release of Antonio Brown

Jamison Joyce, Staff Writer

Off field controversies are nothing new for 11 year NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, but after his most recent antics many people wonder if the seven-time pro bowler will return to the field again.

The altercation began at halftime of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers away game versus the New York Jets. Brown went out of the game and did not want to return because of a recent ankle injury. According to Brown, head coach Bruce Arians insisted that Brown return to the game, which upset him.

Brown proceeded to remove his helmet, shoulder pads and undershirt and began to storm off of the field completely shirtless. Brown’s teammates Mike Evans and O.J. Howard encouraged him to not walk out on the team and attempted to make him return to the bench, but Brown was simply too outraged to hear them out. Brown was denied a ride out of the stadium from security and had to call a personal chauffeur to pick him up.

sIn the days following the event Brown was extremely active on social media and went on multiple Twitter rants that contained new details on the situation including leaked text messages between Brown and Arians. These messages revealed that Brown and Arians had been discussing his ankle injury for a while, and Brown said that despite him not feeling well he wanted what was “best for the team.”

Additionally, these tweets contained surprising statements about seven time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady and his personal trainer. Brown had claimed that Brady and his trainer had tried to unknowingly charge him over $100,000 for a session with the trainer. Brown continued his unusual behavior by tweeting out his bank account info.

After this chaotic chain of events, many people are beginning to believe that Brown is too controversial for the NFL, and he may never be able to suit up again. Some say that Brown’s actions may be a result of CTE, a brain condition that is common amongst football players. If this is the case it would not be safe for Brown’s career to continue and would be best that he retire.

Although Brown already had a questionable track record, these recent antics may have been the final straw for the 11 year veteran.
