Fishing season is around the corner as temperatures begin to rise and the barometric pressure drops. Within the next few weeks, the fish are going to start their spawning season, meaning that they are going to be bigger than they have been all year. The Oklahoma County area has many great fishing spots, and here are just a few.
A popular place to fish is Lake Arcadia, which is located on the east side of Edmond, Oklahoma. To walk the trails, it is $3 a day per person, and to fish, it is $6. Arcadia has a total of around 13 miles of trails around the lake, which make for a great bike ride or walk. The banks and the area around the lake are somewhat muddy, so I would suggest bringing another pair of shoes or flip-flops if you are planning on fishing around the shores of the lake.
When fishing, you have the chance to catch bass, sunfish, crappie, catfish and even saugeye, a walleye and sauger hybrid. Since there tends to be not many fish near the shore, bringing a kayak or boat to allow you to fish in deeper water could help with the overall fishing experience.
Bickham-Rudkin Park is a great place to go with your family. With the scenery, a dog park and extensive trails surrounding the area, this place has something for everyone. The park is one of the best in Edmond when it comes to family activities. There are heaps of grass and trees underneath the water of the fishing pond, which makes for a great fishing experience. Although the fish might not be that big, one is likely to always catch a bass or a sunfish.
Lake Hefner is near Oklahoma City, but with how big the lake is, it makes it fun to travel around and see all of the fishing spots, trails and scenery. Hefner is known for its striped bass and other species of fish, but it is mainly known for its depth and lake size. The deepest parts of the lake reach 94 feet, with an average depth of 29 feet and the shoreline measures around 17 miles.
Lake Guthrie is around 20 minutes away from Edmond. The lake does not have trails, but it only costs $3 a day to fish, which is a good price compared to other nearby lakes. It has a surface area of 200 acres, but it has dozens of fishing spots. Depending on where the wind is blowing, you can fish off one of the dams to catch loads of fish. Overall, the lake is great for fishing and other activities.
Fishing, hiking and camping can be done at most places, but it is best to do it at a lake that was made for those activities. With spring just around the corner, these lakes are some of the best in Edmond, where people can hang out with their family and take a weekend trip to enjoy the outdoors and scenery, but most importantly, to fish.
