At Edmond Memorial High School, a club known as EnviroDogs has come together to perform tasks to clean up planet Earth. With the work of these students and their adviser, Andrea Sampley, an AP Environmental Science and Chemistry teacher, they have all worked to clean the city of Edmond.
“Every single person that’s here is here because they care about our environment,” Sampley said. “Then they go out and have conversations, and you never know how far that reaches.”
One activity the club participates in outside of school is tree planting. According to Grace Hachey, senior PR officer for EnviroDogs, this activity includes organizing with other companies to join them in their services.
“On the 14th, we’re going to go do tree planting,” Hachey said. “We’re trying to organize something going to go down to the Wichita Wildlife Preserve.”
EnviroDogs has also done some work to improve the environment within the school walls. Their main one right now is setting up recycling bins around the campus to encourage students to recycle. With these activities, and more to come, Cheyenne Welch, junior officer for EnviroDogs, has seen a positive impact from this club.
“It’s definitely made an impact,” Welch said. “Especially helping our community with the things that some people do not want to help with. And even doing small things can make a big difference.”
Another reason some of these officers choose to participate is because of their deep concern for the environment and the enjoyment they derive from this club.
“I joined this club because I did hear from somebody who used to be a member,” Hachey said. “[They told me] that it was just very fun, and the environment’s something I’ve always cared about deeply, and I want to help.”
With the environment becoming more of a concern each year, EnviroDogs is doing everything it can to protect the environment and make the planet a better place. Their acts of service and collaborations with other companies bring light to the city of Edmond.
