As the winter season quickly approaches, so do new experiences and memories for students at Edmond Memorial High School. The first ever Winter Wonderham took place on Dec. 5 to raise money for the 2024 Swine Week recipient, The Comeback Kids Society, an organization dedicated to supporting foster home groups, treatment centers, juvenile detentions and more within the community. The inspiration for this event was “25K In A Day” but winter-themed. The event included holiday decorations, stands selling items such as food and drinks and festive music playing at all times.
The decorations included striped candy cane pillars, paper snowflakes, blue and white lights as well as many posters throughout the upper commons and gym lobby. Some posters included sayings like “Deck the Halls,” or “Winter Wonderham.” The decorations created a snowy, winter atmosphere by adding holiday cheer. Some students even wore holiday pajamas, which was the dress-up theme, allowing a fun way for students to participate. No specific holiday was advertised during this event. Therefore, it allowed for greater diversity for holiday cheer.
The atmosphere was bustling with holiday spirit with the EMHS drumline playing holiday-themed music in the upper and lower commons, ensuring a loud, energetic crowd. Winter Wonderham resembled “25K In A Day” except with more booths and tables being added in the gym lobby. While the pink from “25K In A Day” is strong and eye-catching, Winter Wonderham allowed for more creativity and softness throughout the decorations. However, the energetic atmosphere matched remained the same.
Some of the food and drink items sold included waffles, donuts, hot chocolate, nutrition teas, cookies, bagels, piggy pastries and even tropical drinks from Surf Bar. The wide variety of choices allowed sales to increase quickly for the EMHS Swine Week recipient. The long-lasting items like beaded bracelets, permanent jewelry, crafts and Santa Grams, which included candy canes, ornaments, hot cocoa and a note, were also sold at Winter Wonderham. Even Winter Wonderham sweatshirts were sold, which displayed bulldogs pulling a sleigh. The items could be used even after the event. The souvenirs allowed sentimental value and memories to be stored alongside them.
One of the best parts about Winter Wonderham was that students from all sorts of extracurriculars, clubs and sports came together to make it happen. Some of the groups included Student Council, drumline, key club, cheer and pom, Swine Week Royalty, advisers and many EMHS students.
By running a stand or purchasing any kind of item, Winter Wonderham came together wrapped in a holiday bow. The total amount raised was $5,362, and every purchase made by students made the Swine Week recipient one step closer to its goal.
