Netflix strikes again

Netflix’s new movie The Perfect Date, directed by Chris Nelson, was released April 12 and was yet another cheesy romance movie starring actor Noah Centineo, who was featured in Netflix originals To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess is a Loser. Also featured was actress Laura Marano playing Celia Lieberman, who starred alongside Centineo in the Disney show Austin and Ally and in Disney movie Bad Hair Day.

Brooks Rattigan (Centineo) is an ambitious senior attempting to go to Yale. With money struggles and his father wanting him to go to their local college where he has a full ride, he faces many difficulties on the road to achieving his dream, mainly finances.

When he has the chance to take a classmate’s cousin Celia to a formal and earn money for it, he jumps at the opportunity. Through this experience he and his friend Murph (Odiseas Georgiadis) come up with the idea to make an app called “The Stand In.” The app is for people who want to pay to have a date. The customers can choose where it is, what he looks like and how he acts.

Through this app he hopes to have the ability to pay for Yale and achieve his childhood dreams, but he comes across some difficulties that make him question everything.

Although it was fairly predictable, the film had a balance of comedy and seriousness that made watching it entertaining and enjoyable. There were many parts of the ending that were easily guessable from the very beginning which was slightly frustrating, as there weren’t many surprises.

The acting and script while it was corny at times, was well done and the actors played their parts well. Overall, it was an entertaining adaptation and makes a perfect date with a bowl of popcorn and the TV.
