New year, new teachers for Edmond Memorial

Hailey Paddock, Staff Writer

As Edmond Memorial High School begins a new school year, Memorial is welcoming new teachers. This year Memorial’s special education program gained another staff member, Julie Gochenour. After eight years of teaching, she joined Memorial’s staff, leaving her previous job at Central Middle School.

Gochenour graduated from the University of Nebraska, originally starting out teaching general education. She always loved the thought of being in a classroom and working with kids. After moving to Edmond, she became a teacher’s assistant (TA) in the special education department, realizing her passion for teaching both gen education and special education students.

“I just have a heart for teaching and interacting with kids,” Gochenour said.

Working as a TA made Gochenour realize that she wanted to obtain her certification in special education. Gochenour was ready for a change, so transitioning from middle school to high school was exciting for her.

“I just love the whole vibe of high school and the developing students,” Gochenour said.

So far Gochenour has enjoyed being part of the Bulldog staff.

“This is the first time I’ve felt part of a team, part of a family. Memorial has done a great job making me feel accepted .” Gochenour said.

Memorial has offered a warm welcome to Gochenour and she could not be happier to see where her work here will take her.
