Putting the spirit in spirit week

This weeks HOCO dress up days were nothing short of hilarity and variety.

Homecoming week for Edmond Memorial High School is here, bringing with it the beloved themed dress-up days along with the theme “Spook on Yukon” to celebrate spooky October.

Monday– Pajama day

At the start of the week, pajama day had plenty of students sporting matching onesies or pajama sets of all sorts. While a group of students wore matching white shirts and Peanuts themed pants, others either wore animal-themed onesies or the typical PJ sets. Numerous staff members had also worn their own pajamas, which were hilarious to students. Kicking off the week with pajamas was the right way to go as most students agreed that the theme was a great choice for coming back to school from the weekend.

Tuesday– BBQ dad versus soccer mom

Tuesday was nothing short of hilarious outfits as nearly half of EMHS dressed up as either a BBQ dad or soccer mom. A collective of students wore the signature “Kiss the Cook” aprons while holding an arrangement of cooking utensils. Others who dressed as the soccer mom looked almost uncanny to the idea as many had reportedly borrowed clothing from their mothers. While not many teachers participated, most students had some aspect of the theme. Overall the day was pretty entertaining to see how many aspects somebody put into their outfit for the day, so it was a nice touch to the themed week.

Wednesday– Dress like a middle schooler

This day was the most lackluster theme as many students struggled to find the right idea of what made a middle school outfit. A few had dressed in galaxy themed clothes and a few had their hair different. However, there were not many looks that were not anything but normal outfits one would see on a typical day. While a few had managed to pull it off, the difficult aspect of the theme is that a lot of students wear the same style every day, making it hard for students to differentiate. Despite this, some teachers sported more student-like outfits, which did help with the lack of ideas, but there was not as much overall variety among students.

Thursday– Halloween costumes

Thursday was by far the best themed day for HOCO week, as the majority of teachers dressed up along with students rocking their own fun and cool costumes for the day. A range of Spider-Man suits, Star Wars and an odd amount of the same banana costumes could be counted with the wide variety of other interesting outfits. A select few teachers did dress up, as well, but there were not as many as the students.

Questionably though, a small number of students did, in fact, wear masks, which students were informed to not bring; however, no problems arose. Aside from that, it definitely was the highlight of the week because it had everyone in school involved.

Friday– HOCO shirt

As always, the official HOCO shirt, which was $25, was adorned by many students and staff, all in support of the EMHS vs Yukon High School football game that night. As a fine finale to spirit week in support of the football team at Memorial, students showed their school spirit.

Overall this week has been quite fun, and seeing everyone wearing all sorts of outfits throughout the week has made an impression on what it means to be a bulldog at EMHS.
